Why You Will Love Family Photography | Issaquah Family Photographer

I know what you are thinking, why should I love family photos? Right? Like what is there to love about primping, stressing over colors, does this sweater look to chunky, will anyone notice that my daughter gave herself a hair cut, what location should we choose. Figuring out how to get all the kids into the car at the same time, praying that the pre-shoot bribes, erm…. treats don’t get too smooshed into their "Mom, this shirt is itchy" sweater, it can be a nightmare.
Your past experiences may have ended less then desirably, you may have had to take out a second loan just to payback your children for ‘smiling’, or the photos just didn’t turn out the way you had hoped. I want you to know there is so much more to family photography!

I know all of these things create anxiety, honestly, I have anxiety just typing it but, I’m here to tell you that a family session with Maple Hollow Photography starts well before you ever hear the words, "ok, smile!" Scratch that, you will never hear me say that! How I approach family photography is simple – authentic moments are the foundations to memories, foster authenticity preserve the memory.

Preparing for our time together shouldn’t be stress inducing, it should be exciting! It should be something that you look forward to year over year because you know that you a creating memories, capturing emotions having time stand still even for just a moment. Shouldn’t we all want that? I know some of my fondest memories are those that I spent with my Grandpa. I would look over old photos, ask him all kinds of questions and beg him to tell the story over and over. I want that for you, I want your kids, your grand kids to enjoy flipping through old albums sharing moments together.

The first thing we do is talk, yep, like a real conversation. I know you may think you don’t have the time to chat but I promise you it is so worth your time. And here is why, sometimes we just need to slow down and really remember what is important and remember the entire reason why we are taking the photos in the first place! This is your family, these are your memories, it’s your story! I want to meet you, get to know you, understand what makes you unique so that we can highlight that during your session. Also, by meeting before hand it takes the awkwardness out of the shoot. It is tough to have never met someone and then expect for the really authentic things to happen. You are much more apt to fall into the rhythm of the shoot if you go into it already knowing who I am and how the shoot will progress.

I want you to enjoy your time, lets have fun making memories and telling your story. I can take away the stress by helping with location, outfit selections and more. And once all of your photos are ready for viewing we meet again to look at all the images that reflect the best of our time together. This part of the process is casual; you have the opportunity to view all of your photos in your home. By doing the viewing this way we can narrow down which images would look stunning over your fireplace and which would look good in a table top book or which you would like to frame.

Through each phase of your family photography experience I will be there to guide you to help make your experience one that you will remember. You are going to love it, I promise!
